Winding switchback road through the Dades Gorges, Morocco

Dades Valley

Red cliffs, strange rock formations and the kasbah hotels where the first night of every desert tour is spent.

Between Ouarzazate and the Todra Gorges the road passes the Valley of the Roses, famous for its May harvest, then enters the Dades Valley, where the rock has eroded into shapes known locally as Monkey Fingers. The gorge itself climbs into the Atlas by a series of hairpin bends that are the most photographed road in Morocco.
