Midelt & the Ziz Valley

The high plateau halfway between Fes and the Sahara, and the palm-filled canyon that leads to the dunes.

Midelt is the lunch stop between the Middle Atlas and the desert, a market town known for its apples and its Berber carpets. South of it the road drops into the Ziz Valley, a canyon lined with palm groves and ksour that announces the Sahara long before the dunes appear.
