Overview

Essaouira is the easiest escape from the heat and noise of Marrakech: three hours west through argan country and you are on the Atlantic, in a white and blue medina that Orson Welles and Jimi Hendrix both fell for. The day is unhurried. We drop you at the ramparts around 11:00 and pick you up at 17:00, with a map, a few restaurant tips and the number of your driver.

On the way we stop at a women's argan oil cooperative, and if you are lucky, at a tree with goats in it.

Itinerary

  1. 08:00Pick-up in Marrakech

    Departure from your riad in a private air-conditioned vehicle.

  2. 09:30Argan cooperative

    See how the oil is pressed and taste amlou, the almond and argan spread.

  3. 11:00Essaouira

    Orientation walk with your driver, then free time: ramparts, port, medina, beach.

  4. 13:00Lunch

    Grilled fish at the port stalls or a seafood restaurant in the medina, at your own expense.

  5. 17:00Return

    Drive back to Marrakech, arrival around 20:00.
